As the COVID19 pandemic quickly depleted the world's supply of N-95 level masks, I joined a small group of students committed to designing a solution.
My approach aimed to create a modular design that allowed for a filter to be easily replaced without replacing the entire mask.
A CAD mock-up allowed for precise measurements and considered tolerances in manufacturing
Design Features
Important design features in this modular system are (1) the interchangeability of the filter disk, (2) the replaceability of the non-integrated clips, and (3) the ease of manufacturing.
Additional features include the option to include a variety of filters, and the design's ability to be integrated into multiple mask designs.
This design evolved from two previous preliminary design concepts that were inspired by the filters in an anesthesia mask. I chose to move away from sourcing parts from the healthcare supply chain, so as not to further burden the system.
Assembly Method Exploration
This Documentation is a concept for a rig that would allow for more rapid and accurate assembly of the design
This method is currently being tested, and more documentation is pending the results
